Software Demo FAQs

Please Note: This web page is new and still in its early stages

General Demo Facts

The Avocet software demos that you can download from the web are not full products with a 30 day time limit as are many demos these days. The demos have no time limit but are limited in some other way; either in producing no hex/S record/binary output or in being code size limited to some degree.

To use the tools command-line-wise, open a Command Prompt window and run the setenv.bat file created by the installer.

At present we do not have any Linux hosted demos.

WIDE 3 Demos

The demos for our first tier C compilers; those for the 8051, 6502, 68000, Z80, Z180 and 68HC11 are provided with a code size limited demo. These produce an encrypted form of hex file which is intended for use on the built-in demo simulator debugger.

If the demo is for an assembler, then it will be limited only in that it will produce no hex, S record or binary file. It will be code size unlimited and will not be time limited.

These demos have sufficient documentation for general use provided in the file w3_help.pdf. The information in this file will provide answers to most questions arising as to how to run the compiler. This information is by no means complete and is not intended to be so.

WIDE 2 Demos

Nearly all assembler demos are provided with the WIDE2 or ADWIDE Windows user interface. The important thing to note with these demos is that the IDE is limited to short file names, both for the installation and for any project files created. The IDE tends to be deceptive here as it often defaults to the "My Documents" folder in which to create a new project! If you find this, you should browse away from this folder and find or create an 8.3 conformant folder.

If using the demo assembler at the Command Prompt, then you can use long file and folder names. You will need to run the setenv.bat file created by the installer in the main assembler folder to be able to run the demo executables.

General information on the WIDE2 user interface is found in the rlsnotes.pdf file found in the Help subfolder. Brief information on assembler directives, command line switches and running the linker are found in the asmnotes.pdf file in the same folder.

There are a few demos for our second tier compilers which use WIDE version 2. These are C code size limited but may not be in respect of assembly code. WIDE version 2 demos do not have any simulator debugger.
