IDS/LC PROM Debugger Overview

(No longer in production)

Product Overview

Avocet's Cactus Logic low cost ROM emulator, the Integrated Debugging System/LC, provides a PC-based environment for 8-bit embedded systems firmware debugging and testing.

The IDS user interface is patterned after Borland's Turbo C and Turbo Pascal, combines the functions of a source and assembly level real-time, in circuit debugger, editor and PROM emulator and works with your compiler.

You control the debugging, editing, compiling and downloading functions using simple keystrokes or mouse clicks along with pull-down command menus and dialog boxes.

The IDS/LC currently supports versions of the 8051, Z80/Z180, 6502, 6809, 8085, and 80C251 8-bit microprocessors. See processor list for the specefic processors that are supported.

Benefits

  • Our familiar Borland Turbo C-like programming environment is easy to learn and use. The IDS commands and screens are identical regardless of the CPU type being used.

  • Source/assembly code debugging with symbolic variables displayed in the watch window increases debugging speed and efficiency since you can step through the source while observing the effect on the variables.

  • The faster debug, edit, compile, debug cycle time in our integrated environment saves you time. You can invoke the editor, debugger, and your compiler or MAKE utility with a single keystroke.

  • The IDS quickly and easily connects to your target microprocessor and PC. Just plug it into the target system PROM socket and your PC printer port.

  • Development sytem costs are lower because additional adapters or pods are not required for different microprocessors.

  • No need to spend time programming PROMs since the IDS includes a 128 Kbyte PROM emulator.

  • The Target Interface Unit is small and lightweight. Ideal for in the field use. The host PC can be far as 15 feet away from the target.

    Features

  • Works with your compilers and MAKE utilities to give powerful source and assembly level debugging.

  • Powerful source and assembly level breakpoints are simple to set. 1,000 Breakpoints

  • Assign breakpoints to groups which can be enabled or disabled by other breakpoints

  • Log processor and watch data to disk file

  • Perform simulated input or output

  • Break after a specified number of "hits"

  • Complete control over program execution with Run, Reset, Run to cursor, Step, Animate and Stop commands

  • Built in text editor with extensive keystroke and menu editing commands for cursor movement, insert/ delete, search and block operations.

  • Setups and windows are automatically saved and restored.

  • One Target Interface Unit works with all supported microprocessors. No costly adapters are needed.

  • Optional Logic Trigger Module and adapters for 8051 processors. See Accessory data sheet.

  • Command input from keyboard or mouse using pull-down menus and pop-up dialog boxes.

  • Includes a demo target system board to help you verify the operation of the IDS software and TIU hardware during installation and set-up.

  • Real Time operation with no additional wait states.

  • Movable, re-sizable windows for editing multiple source files and displaying: CPU registers and and disassembled code, Special Function Registers, Program memory listing, Internal RAM listing, External RAM listing Output and Watch windows.

    COMMAND MENUS

The command Menus control the operation of the IDS and thy can be activated with either the keyboard or the mouse. Hot-keys are provided for most commands.
